Browse Wood County Parcel Maps

Wood County parcel maps turn an address or tax-map reference into a real tract of land. That tract is one you can see on the county grid. A good map helps you find the parcel. It also helps you spot the lots next door and jump from a drawn shape to an assessor card or a recorded plat. Treat it as a research aid, though. It is not a survey, and it does not prove title. Search Wood County property records by address or parcel number. Read what the map shows for that tract. Then check the legal description against the recorded deed whenever a boundary or acreage question matters.

Read a Wood County Parcel Map

Wood County relies on the statewide WV Property Viewer as its public parcel map. Open any tract and you can read its parcel number. An owner summary, the parcel address, and the E-911 address appear as well. The same panel shows the community, flood zone, and delinquent status. Building details appear too. These include cost and appraised values and links out to the full assessment report. Some layers may exist for Wood County beyond these. So treat this table as a confirmed set of map functions rather than a complete catalog of everything the viewer can display.

The workflow across offices is simple. Take the parcel ID from the viewer. Use it to pull the matching Assessor card, then carry that card's deed book-page to the County Clerk for the instrument itself. The viewer also supports highlight, copy-link, KMZ download, and outside mapping links. Remember that the map only identifies the tract. The recorded deed and plat carry the legal description that anchors the land record.

Find a Wood County Parcel from an Address

Start with an address. The WV Viewer accepts either the E-911 address or the street address. Matching tracts come back for you to select and inspect. Address formats can drift, though. A rural route conversion, a postal-city label, or a renamed street can leave the assessor and the map using slightly different forms of the same location. When the street search fails, switch to the owner name or the parcel ID. Once the right tract is selected, copy the full identifier straight from the record. Do not reconstruct it from an abbreviated tax-map label.

  1. Enter an E-911 or street address, owner name, full parcel ID, or map-parcel parts.
  2. Select the intended tract and read parcel number, address, owner summary, acreage, and assessment link.
  3. Use buffer search for nearby parcels or coordinates when the target is known by location.
  4. Carry the parcel ID to the Assessor and deed book-page to the County Clerk for record confirmation.
Parcel number
The district-map-parcel-suffix identifier assigned to one tax-map tract.
Plat
A recorded map that shows a subdivision, lots, streets, and easements.
Lot and block
A description that identifies a platted lot within a recorded subdivision.
Metes and bounds
A land description using courses, bearings, and monuments.
Easement
A recorded right to use part of a parcel for a stated purpose.

Limits of Wood County Parcel Maps

Every buyer should understand one thing. Tax-map geometry is only a reference layer, and the viewer says so plainly. It is not a survey. It is not legal evidence of ownership or of lot dimensions. The acreage it calculates comes from the mapped shape, which makes it an estimate. The deeded acreage in the recorded conveyance controls for tax assessment. If the two figures diverge sharply, take the question to the Assessor or a licensed surveyor rather than settling it by measuring a web map.

Not a survey. Wood County parcel lines help locate a tract, but they do not settle a boundary. Use the deed and plat for record context and a licensed surveyor when a legal line must be marked.

Wood County Parcel ID Format

The viewer builds its GIS identifier from four parts: District, Map, Parcel, and Suffix. Leading zeroes matter. Its example reads 01 2345-6789-0123. The state tool treats this as distinct from a CAMA or IAS parcel ID, which may drop a county code or arrange the pieces differently. A paper tax-map label can leave the zeroes off. Copy the identifier from the selected result rather than typing a guess into another system.

Keep every segment when matching across portals. Retain the district, map, parcel, and suffix pieces together. The account number and deed book-page belong beside it. If the exact GIS ID returns nothing in CAMA, try the parcel pieces in the county form. Mapping staff can also help at 304-420-0911. A format difference alone does not mean two parcels are different. Nor does it mean a parcel is missing.

The space and hyphens in the example separate components rather than decorate the number. The Assessor's CAMA form asks for District and Map/Parcel in separate fields, so you may need to split the state ID before searching. Preserve the suffix whenever one appears, because it can distinguish parcels that share a map and base number.

Deeded Acreage Leads the Wood County Map

Deeded acreage wins in Wood County. The WV viewer says so plainly. When the recorded land record and the calculated GIS figure disagree, the deeded number controls. Calculated acreage comes straight from the polygon. It is only a rough estimate. It should never serve as the assessment acreage for a parcel. Rural tracts, riverfront lots, and irregular parcels hit this mismatch most often, because the screen can disagree with the deed.

Start with the legal description and acreage in the recorded deed, then compare the Assessor card and the map. If the difference is material, ask the Assessor. Never edit an assessment record from a rough map measurement. GIS lines exist for tax and reference use, and they prove no ownership, dimensions, or right to build across a line.

Wood County Plats Tie Lots to Tax Maps

A subdivision plat is a bridge. It names the development and ties it to the county tax map, page, and tract. Wood County land-use rules demand precision. Expect numbered lots, approximate dimensions, streets, alleys, easements, dedications, a north arrow, scale, date, a vicinity sketch, and a licensed-surveyor certification. Those details turn lot-and-block language into a map. They also feed a cleaner deed search. The Clerk's record-type menu lists several plat formats. These include PLAT, LITTLE PLAT, BIG PLAT BOOK, DEED BOOK, RIGHT OF WAY, and easement records.

The county's Tax Maps and Address Map page gives the tax-map route. A recorded plat shows the intended lot and its neighbors. Later deeds can still alter or split that layout. Read the newest deed beside the plat whenever the lot number, parcel shape, or road dedication has changed.

Flood and Delinquent Wood County Parcels

The parcel detail view carries a flood-zone field. Community information appears there too. The viewer also offers a delinquent-lands layer that updates weekly. Both add context to a Wood County property search. Neither settles anything legal on its own. A flood entry is not a full floodplain determination, and a delinquent flag does not prove a foreclosure or completed tax sale. When a decision depends on map status, follow the parcel to the floodplain office or the State Auditor record. Wood County floodplain materials expect site plans and engineering detail for work in regulated areas.

The delinquent layer works best as a search lead. The Sheriff's ticket, tax notices, and the State Auditor's sale and redemption records explain the true legal status, so treat map overlays as pointers to those files.

Wood County Address and Neighbor Map Help

Wood County’s Addressing and Mapping Coordinator is listed at 304-420-0911. Use that contact when an assigned E-911 address or mapping segment does not fit the CAMA parcel record. The Assessor real-property contact is 304-424-1842, and the Clerk’s Record Room is 304-424-1870. A parcel map question, a tax-roll question, and a deed-image question belong to different custodians.

For adjacent parcels, use the selected tract’s geometry buffer, record the neighboring parcel IDs, and then look up each one in the Card File or CAMA. The dedicated Wood County neighbor lookup uses that block-by-block route without repeating this full map overview. If neighboring lines matter to a fence or sale, compare the plat and deed, then get a licensed survey.

For an address assignment issue, the County 911 Mapping Coordinator can be reached at 304-420-0911. For a parcel-shape or assessment-record question, the Assessor’s mapping contact is 304-424-1999. These contacts handle different parts of the map record. A request should state the street or E-911 address and the existing district/map/parcel, if available, so staff can tell whether the issue is an address label, a GIS segment, or the parcel account itself.
